Largely from the security desk to peace and conflict analysts, the debate however was not without a sublimation of facts. Through the medium of language, the study claims that the killing of the soldiers was wrongly accounted for. As Plato puts it, unless language is rightly applied, society most likely can be led astray. Arising from this the study would further argue that the exceeding state commemoration accorded to the soldiers, on the other hand, backgrounds at the communities who also lost their folks to the rumble. While the state never mentioned this side of the story, the researcher avows that this is a case of class externalization. The death of the soldiers, the paper concludes is indeed in connection with the demands and nature of their duty.
Taylor, Tamunosaki (PhD) Copyright (c) 2024 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://mjssh.academicjournal.io/index.php/mjssh/article/view/757 Mon, 03 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Residents’ Perception of States’ Ministries of Health’s Strategies for Communicating Mental Health Information in South-South Region of Nigeria https://mjssh.academicjournal.io/index.php/mjssh/article/view/758
This study was motivated by the perceived negative perception of people with mental health issues by residents of South-South Region of Nigeria, as well as seeming lack of awareness of mental health issues among the residents. Consequent upon the above, the study investigated how the residents perceive the mental health information communication strategies of the Rivers and Akwa Ibom States’ Ministries of Health, the institutions entrusted with mental health information diffusion in the region. The theoretical framework rested on the agenda, selective influences as well as social learning theories. Adopting survey design, the study sampled 384 respondents drawn from a population of 2,167,600, using purposive and convenience sampling methods. The findings reveal that the residents generally perceive the communication strategies of the States’ Ministries of Health as ineffective, as a result of the nature of the strategies which are infrequent, lack explanation and depth. Again, the strategies do not adopt trickle-down and society-specific models to reach the grassroots, resulting in low level awareness and negative perception of mental health issues among residents of the region. Against the background of the findings, the study recommended that the Ministries of Health in the South-South region should review their mental health information dissemination strategies in terms of regularity, clarity and use of society and community-specific communication channels.
Kasarachi Hayford Innocent Copyright (c) 2024 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://mjssh.academicjournal.io/index.php/mjssh/article/view/758 Mon, 03 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Relevance Of Education To Economic Growth https://mjssh.academicjournal.io/index.php/mjssh/article/view/759
Education is an important human capital investment that supports economic growth and development. Education is widely recognized as a fundamental driver of national development. Investments in education, from primary to tertiary levels, improve individuals' skills, knowledge, and productivity, resulting in increased economic production and productivity. This study emphasizes the various ways that education promotes economic growth. Educated people have higher employment and earning potential, which helps to minimize poverty and inequality in income. According to the report, education supports entrepreneurship, creativity, and technical improvement, all of which are necessary for long-term economic progress. Education also has an important role in the development of vital institutions, governance, and social welfare systems that are necessary for economic growth. It was argued that, while education alone cannot revolutionize an economy, it is an essential component of effective economic policies. Macroeconomic stability, infrastructure development, and openness to trade and investment all contribute to growth. Importantly, the extent to which growth lowers poverty is determined by the poor's ability to participate in and profit from the economic process, emphasizing the need of equitable educational access. The study concluded that investing in quality education at all levels is critical for generating long-term economic growth, especially in emerging countries. Policymakers must promote education as a major tool for decreasing poverty, enhancing social welfare, and promoting long-term prosperity
Ojekudo, Beatrice Emamoke Copyright (c) 2024 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://mjssh.academicjournal.io/index.php/mjssh/article/view/759 Mon, 03 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Dropbox Photo-Text Instructional Strategy and Academic Performance of Teacher Trainees in Universities in South-South Nigeria https://mjssh.academicjournal.io/index.php/mjssh/article/view/760
This study examined the effect of Dropbox photo-text Instructional Strategy on Academic Performance of Teacher Trainees in Universities in South-South Nigeria. To achieve this, two objectives, two research questions and two null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The quasi-experimental pretest –posttest non randomized control group design was adopted to teach 414 students out 2490 Educational Technology students in four sampled State Universities out of seven in South-South Nigeria. Two universities were used as experimental group 1 and 2 and two for control. The lesson content on visual instructional materials was developed by the researcher and taught using dropbox instructional strategy and dropbox photo-text discussion strategy for experiment 1 and 2 while expository teaching method was used for control group. The researcher-made instrument titled Educational Technology Performance Test (ETPT) was used for data collection. Two experts validated the researcher-made instrument. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was obtained using Spearman Brown Prophecy Formula. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was 0.97. Research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation on concept of visual instructional materials in Educational Technology. The hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Covariance at .05 level of significance. The findings revealed that the use of dropbox instructional strategy enhanced educational technology teacher trainees’ performance compared to expository method. It was concluded that the combination of different teaching methods, instructional media, pictures or photo-text discussion and online file (content) sharing enhance academic performance of teacher trainees in universities in South-South Nigeria. Based on the findings, it is recommended among others that universities academic policy and curricula should include the use of dropbox instructional strategy and photo-text discussion strategy during instructional delivery process to enhance teacher trainee academic performance.
Atabang, Atim Anietie (Ph.D) Copyright (c) 2024 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://mjssh.academicjournal.io/index.php/mjssh/article/view/760 Mon, 03 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Integration of Practical Strategies in Teaching https://mjssh.academicjournal.io/index.php/mjssh/article/view/761
The problems of any educational system is attributable to many factors, but one factor that has borne most of the accusation is the classroom teachers. While teachers cannot do a lot about shortage of teachers and employment of unqualified and unprofessional teachers, the can do a lot about what goes on in the classroom, one of these is how they engage learners in class activities. Practical strategies are teaching-learning strategies that ensure that learners are actively involved in the instructional process. Some of the practical strategies that can be used in the learning situation are effective communication, stimulating all the senses, creating a conducive learning environment, encouraging class participation, encourage positive self-concept, make learning fun, integrate technologies and using constructivists’ strategies.
Ibiye Omieibi-Davids Copyright (c) 2024 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://mjssh.academicjournal.io/index.php/mjssh/article/view/761 Sun, 09 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000
